Albury Airport Master Plan Takes Off

Monday 27 May 2019

We’re investing in the future of our community to drive the economic and social development of the Albury Wodonga region through the Albury Airport Master Plan and major works program.

The Albury Airport Master Plan provides a long term plan (15 years) for the expansion of the Albury Airport to service growing regional demand for Regular Passenger Transport (RPT) services, emergency and defence aircraft, and aviation related business expansion and operation.

Following the recent completion of the major terminal upgrade completed in July 2018, the works program now has shifted focus to the reconstruction of taxiways Alpha, Echo and Charlie.

A number of opportunities and prospects have been identified as part of the Master Plan including leveraging the Inland Rail project, establishing interest in a permanent aerial firefighting base, establishing new direct routes (e.g. Brisbane, Gold Coast, Canberra, Adelaide), aero-medical operations and potential growth of flying schools.

What does this continued development in one of our most important regional assets mean for business?

  • Increased accessibility and connectivity to our region - Albury Airport is a gateway not only to Albury Wodonga, but also to the surrounding regional area. By improving the three major taxiways we’re laying important groundwork that will support businesses and leisure travellers across the entire region.
  • Reduced airport delays and safety improvements - The taxiway upgrades aim to improve Regular Public Transport (RPT) and General Aviation (GA) efficiencies by reducing take-off and landing delays through the improvement and addition of runway entry and exit points. This will be a benefit to passengers and aircraft users, as it means potentially reducing delays to travel and flight time. It also means that with improved taxiways, the aircraft have more efficient and safer options when landing and exiting the runway.
  • Air freight services – Airport upgrades will increase freight capacity and efficiency, opening up options available to businesses in the region to export their products.
