Thriving Local Economy

The Albury Wodonga region continues to thrive as we welcome the new year and the opportunties it brings.

Recently, our region has seen major infrastructure development which adds to the vibrancy and progress of our cities, including the opening of the Riverside Precinct, completion of the upgrades to the Lavington Sports Ground and the opening of the Opal advanced manufacturing facility in Wodonga.

We are excited to continue to deliver projects to grow our region including the transformation of Albury's historic Pump House, the taxiway extension at Albury Airport, and the Material Recovery Facility at Albury Waste Management Centre. Wodonga are busy working on the development of the Baranduda Fields Sporting complex and are awaiting the outcomes of Development VIcotira's EOI process for the CBD site Junction Place.

Albury Wodonga services the wider region as the major retail, commercial, administrative, health, educational, and cultural centre. Located at the centre of the Sydney-Melbourne-Adelaide triangle, it is recognised as a leading regional centre with a positive outlook for growth, investment, and employment.

As at June 2023, the Gross Regional Product of Albury Wodonga stands at  9.24 billion, marking a 10 per cent increase over the previous fiscal year. This consistent growth demonstrates a solid and stable economic environment, reflective of Albury Wodonga's strategic importance in the regional economy.

As far as industry growth is concerned, Albury Wodonga has recently seen the development and opening of two large-scale manufacturers on either side of the border.

Circular Plastic, located at the NEXUS Industrial Precinct in Albury, opened their doors in March 2022. The $45 million Circular Plastics Australia PET plastic recycling facility, is the largest facility of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

General Manager - Pact Recycling Joint Ventures, Paul Ross, says transport links, proximity to existing business partners, land affordability, and Council cooperation, played an integral role in choosing the region as the location for the world-class PET recycling facility.

Similarly, in Wodonga, Opal opened its $140 million corrugated cardboard packaging facility at the Logic Industrial Estate in November 2023. The Wodonga facility, which utilises the latest advanced, high-speed packaging manufacturing technology, will process recycled and kraft paper from Opal's Botany Mill in Sydney and Maryvale Mill in the Latrobe Valley.

We are eager to witness the continued growth and prosperity of the economy in the Albury Wodonga region, and we encourage you to consider Albury Wodonga if business location is on your horizon.
